About the Role
The team is looking for an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to lead their growing team and contribute to the next phase of their development. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines technical accounting expertise with workflow management and client engagement.
You'll work closely with their senior partner, manage the day-to-day operations of the practice, support and review the work of junior staff, and ensure a high standard of service delivery across all areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the accounting team's workflow and priorities.
- Prepare and review financial statements, tax returns (for individuals, trusts, partnerships & companies), BAS and IAS lodgements.
- Guide and mentor junior accountants, ensuring quality control and compliance with ATO standards.
- Manage data extraction, journal entries, reconciliations and balance sheet verifications.
- Liaise with clients to interpret financial statements and tax positions, and offer strategic recommendations.
- Report directly to the senior partner on team performance, workflow, and practice improvements.
- Champion the use of cloud and practice management software such as Xero, FYI, XPM, MYOB, QuickBooks, and NetSuite.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years' experience in Australian public practice accounting/ or similar experience
- CPA or CA qualification (or working towards) – advantageous/ but not essential
- Strong understanding of Australian tax law and compliance for various entity types.
- Proven ability to manage and mentor an accounting team.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and strong organisational skills.
- Confidence using accounting technology and cloud-based systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a client-first approach.
